NH Department of Education Tutorials

  • This online tutorial will provide you with some basic knowledge and skills necessary for being an effective substitute teacher. Proper preparation before substituting in a school or district will greatly increase your confidence and comfort level when facing the students who will be with you in the classroom. This tutorial is designed to help you better understand the conditions and responsibilities necessary for being a substitute teacher. You will get a brief overlook of the situation in education today and understand how teachers and students fit into the changing landscape. You will explore some basic skills and techniques for teaching lessons to students and review some strategies for managing any behavioral issues that you may encounter. Finally, you will get a basic understanding of the kinds of required policies and procedures that schools require, including the NH required pupil safety policy. As you complete each unit of the tutorial, you will be asked to submit an online assessment. Once your assessments for all of the units are submitted and evaluated, you will receive a Certificate of Completion for 5 hours of professional development for this tutorial training. This certificate can be used to demonstrate to your school(s) that you have completed basic training in substitute teaching.

  • In an effort to assist schools in providing training for ALL school related employees, volunteers, substitute teachers and others, the Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities Program and the NH e-Learning for Educators Project, both programs of the New Hampshire Department of Education, have developed this short and simple tutorial training for bullying awareness. This tutorial is divided into three sections: Understanding Bullying, the Impact of Cyberbullying, and Understanding the New Hampshire Pupil Safety and Violence Prevention act. As you complete each unit of the tutorial, you will be asked to submit an online assessment. Once your assessments for all three units are submitted and evaluated, you will receive a Certificate of Completion for 3 hours of professional development for this tutorial training. This certificate can be used to demonstrate to your school(s) that you have satisfied the required basic training in bullying awareness and prevention. Additional professional development opportunities should be offered through your school, district, or SAU, annually.

  • This self paced tutorial will take you through the course features and expectations found in all of the OPEN NH online professional development courses provided by New Hampshire e-Learning for Educators.This course is free for all to explore at their own pace and as time permits. Participants will be guided through the e-Learning for Educators discussion-based, asynchronous model for online professional development courses offered through OPEN NH.This tutorial uses videos found on You Tube and Teacher Tube to demonstrate best practices for success with online courses.Discussion questions are provided in the tutorial, but are optional.We encourage you to post discussion comments both for practice in posting and for the benefit of those who will review the tutorial after you.Are you ready to explore the benefits of online learning?
